Wienerschnitzel {Oktoberfest Inspired}
Less than 50 miles North of us, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, on the Chattahoochee River, sits Helen, Georgia….a re-creation of a Bavarian alpine village complete with cobblestone streets, hundreds of specialty shops, and all the beer and brats you could eat. Each year during the months of September and October, Helen hosts the longest running Oktoberfest in the United States. In honor of Oktoberfest we’re making our favorite German recipes: Wienerschnitzel, Spaetzle, and Sweet and Sour Red Cabbage.

German Sweet & Sour Red Cabbage
When I started talking to friends about an Oktoberfest inspired dinner I got lots of suggestions on dishes I might make. I knew Wienerschnitzel and Spaetzle would be on the menu for certain and after mutliple requests for Red Cabbage our dinner was complete. German Sweet & Sour Red Cabbage.

Brown Sugar Chicken & Sweet Potato Casserole {Comfort Food}
A match made in heaven. That’s what Jennifer & Jason are. The love that surrounded them on their big day was so real you could touch it. It came from their families, separated by an isle but clearly united by love. We their friends were overflowing with joy for them as they said their I Do’s. And as they turned to face us for the first time as husband and wife their beautiful smiling faces and interlocked hands lifted us all.

Salmon & Snow Pea Pasta with Tarragon Cream Sauce
Salmon & Snow Pea Pasta with Tarragon Cream Sauce. Doesn’t that just sound so creamy and delicious. It was. I’m not sure who decided that Salmon & Peas are two peas in a pod…but I’m right there. I know I can’t claim everything as comfort food but….buttery baked salmon, mild snow peas, pasta tossed with an ultra creamy tarragon sauce….muah!!

Inside Out Dusty Miller Sundae {Deep Fried Fair Style}
I’ve been racking my brain this week trying to envision some Outrageous Fair Food Creation that hasn’t been done. The beauty of the Internet is with the click of a button you can indeed confirm that most everything you can imagine has already been deep fried and served on a stick. But I think I may have an original, inspired by my favorite childhood treat…a Dusty Miller Sundae…vanilla ice cream, hot fudge sauce, generous sprinkling of malted milk powder, topped with whipped cream. A ‘treat’ would imply it didn’t happen often, however I was fortunate in that I grew up just across the cornfield from Silver Ranch, home of the Dusty Miller and…

Chocolate Truffles {Adventures in Chocolate}
Of all our posts to Lemony Thyme or Facebook….Adventures in Chocolate get the most attention. After several weeks of posting crazy decadent desserts I had a friend request something non-dairy (but I got the feeling a fresh fruit parfait wasn’t what she was envisioning). So I present you with Chocolate Truffles, easily converted to non-dairy.

Spaghetti & Meatballs on a Stick {Fabulous Fair Food}
The Country Fair has been in full twirling whirling mode for the past 10 days. Every day on my drive to work I’m amazed at how it has transformed the space the Farmers’ Market occupied all summer long. Each morning at the office I can overhear recaps from those who attended ‘the fair’ the evening prior.

Fabulous Fair Food {Outrageous Creations}
The Country Fair has come to town. Just a few blocks from my office, where my Farmers’ Market used to sit, is now a whirling twirling full blown fair. No shortage of rides & attractions, tractors & steam engines, pigs & chickens, rodeo riders & alligator wrestlers, and a myriad of Fabulous Fair Food vendors.

Fresh Herb Grilled Chicken {with Basil Herb Butter}
Back before there was a negative stigma associated with a recipe that called for a stick of butter (y’all), we could put away some butter. Growing up as a child I seriously thought butter was a side dish….since we all had our own dish of butter when we sat down to dinner. It’s no wonder we ate every vegetable put in front of us (except Brussels Sprouts…love them now). Over the years we have worked pretty hard to replace some (not all) of that butter with healthier options….olive oil, herbs, lemon juice. Having said that, this Fresh Herb Grilled Chicken with Basil Herb Butter recipe, adapted from the queen of butter Paula Deen, has earned the…
