Whether you grow fresh basil yourself or buy it at the market, inevitably you will end up with more than you need. Having an easy Basil Pesto recipe up your sleeve will come in quite handy.

Deconstructed Shrimp & Grits {one small bite at a time}
Deconstructed Shrimp & Grits ~ One small bite at a time. I’m not sure where to begin with this one. I was fumbling around the kitchen one Saturday afternoon, clearly making no headway on dinner. An ensuing melt-down in the making (doesn’t happen often but apparently there are precursors). To head it off, I was given a challenge. “Forget dinner. You have one hour to create an appetizer, something you’ve never made before. Then we’ll decide about dinner.”

French Onion Soup {with Pumpernickel Croutons}
When I make French Onion Soup I know my family feels loved. That makes me happy. A big pot of buttery caramelized onions, fresh herbs & garlic, nice rich beef stock, topped with an over-sized crouton smothered with cheese. It’s LOVE I tell you.

African Chicken Peanut Stew {Pot Pies}
The first time we made African Chicken Peanut Stew was the day Shelby and I discovered Penzey’s Spices. I bought three spices that day, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, and cardamom seeds. You see, earlier that morning I had read my first ‘non-family/friend’ comment on Lemony Thyme. It’s hard to explain the feeling but I was a titch giddy. Perhaps it’s like being in high school and having a crush on the most popular kid in school, who doesn’t even know you exist. Then one day, out of nowhere, they greet you by name. What?! Me, you know my name? And my mother didn’t put you up to this? It’s the kind of thing…

Cheesy Garlic & Herb Pull-Apart Bread {with Maryland Crab Dip}
It’s Super Bowl Sunday and I had resigned myself to the idea that I wasn’t going to put on a big spread, even though this is the 2nd biggest eating holiday of the year, after Thanksgiving. Nope, wasn’t going to do it. Although, somehow a roast chicken dinner just didn’t scream Football the way I was starting to feel Football. So as any good coach would do….let’s drop back and punt. We have no stake in the outcome of this game so really it’s got to be about the food (and the commercials). Paying tribute to both teams for making it to the Big Game…we are having Sourdough (in honor of the San…

Baked Buffalo Chicken Meatballs
Chicken Wing shortage? Now that would be a ‘fowl play’ just two days before Game Time. It is estimated that American’s will eat 1.23 billion chicken wings this Super Bowl weekend or an average of 4 wings per person. There’s no question we LOVE our Super Bowl food, so much so that it has become the 2nd largest eating holiday, after Thanksgiving. While I think the chicken wing shortage story has been refuted by the National Chicken Council, let me offer up a Chicken Wing alternative just in case. Baked Buffalo Chicken Meatballs.

Garlic Parmesan Roasted Chickpeas {Healthy Living}
Healthy Living is something we should all aspire to. I’m not crazy about the word diet, unless a doctor puts you on one. For me, and many I talk with daily, we just need to bite the bullet and eat right and exercise…aka a little Healthy Living. I’m about to enter airport world, lethal for Healthy Living (just behind Amusement Parks and County Fairs). Seriously, someone please start an airport restaurant franchise featuring healthy living options, that are quick and portable. I’m taking these Garlic Parmesan Roasted Chickpeas with me…baby steps.

Braised Rib End Pork Roast
I was invited to be a Sunday Dinner guest in my own home. Doesn’t get much better than that. So while I’m writing about this dinner, this Braised Rib End Pork Roast was a combined effort and oh so delicious.

Peruvian Roast Chicken {She Knows Me}
Peruvian Chicken. When my co-worker Cindy told me she had a recipe that was right up my alley…I listened. She knows me. Peruvian Chicken she promised was packed full of incredible make-you-get-a-little-giddy flavor…and wouldn’t you know this recipe is just in time for Winter Thyme Spice Exploration. She really knows me.

Spicy Green Sauce
Our new love of North African flavors has led us to discover a unique blend of spices and ingredients. This Spicy Green Sauce from City Kitchen,called chermoula offers just that. A slightly spicy pesto-like sauce that infuses the heat of serrano peppers, with the very bright and green flavors of lots of fresh cilantro and scallions, and finishes with a hint of tart lemon zest. We paired this sauce initially with our North African Chicken, but are certain it would be delicious with fish, beef, or lamb.
