Festive Pear Pomegranate & Pecan Spinach Salad
Yesterday I jumped in with both feet and came up with three salads I think you’ll really enjoy! The first up is this festive Pear, Pomegranate & Pecan Spinach Salad with Pomegranate Maple Vinaigrette! You see, I was somewhere between planning our Family Thanksgiving menu and scheduling an upcoming Holiday Luncheon when I realized a serious void on Lemony Thyme. I’m really slacking in the festive salad category. That was then, this is now!

From The Earth Salad with Sherry Vinaigrette
This From The Earth Salad with Sherry Vinaigrette is aptly named after our nearby brewery where it can be found on the menu. The ingredients in this salad are simple and colorful and fresh. Tangy feta, with blistered tomatoes and crisp corn pair perfectly with creamy avocado and fresh cucumber and greens. Then there’s the Sherry Vinaigrette. Just the right balance of vinegar to honey to aromatic shallot and garlic.
Creamy German Cucumber-Dill Salad (Gurkensalat)
We decided to host an Oktoberfest themed dinner and knew Creamy German Cucumber-Dill Salad would be on the menu. The ingredients are simple yet the sour cream & fresh dill dressing brings a lovely full flavor to this chilled salad. This salad, also known as Gurkensalat is fresh and light and makes a perfect side dish.
Homemade Sazon Seasoning Blend
I recently made Arroz Con Pollo (Latin Chicken & Rice) and the recipe called for Sazon Seasoning. Sazón, which means seasoning in Spanish, is a staple in Latin cooking. When added to soups, stews, and rice dishes it brings a beautiful yellow color. Sure, I could have gone to my local market headed down the International Foods isle and found the familiar yellow and orange box of Sazon packets.
Easy Homemade Adobo Seasoning Blend
Make a batch of Homemade Adobo Seasoning Blend to have on hand. This all-purpose blend is a delicious way to season meats, vegetables, soups and stews. You’ll find this spice blend is a key ingredient in many Latin, Mexican, and Caribbean recipes. You’ve likely seen it on the grocery store shelves in the Latin/Mexican section.
Easy Achiote Oil (made from Annatto Seeds)
Achiote Oil begins with annatto seeds which come from the achiote tree. The tree bears spiky pod-like fruit that contains these bright red seeds. The annatto seeds can be ground into a powder, made into a paste or used to infuse oil. Because of its gorgeous crimson color, annatto seeds can be used as a food coloring or dye with color ranging from yellow to deep orange.
