Fish Chowder {and a Fish! story}
Fish Chowder served in Bread Bowls. <—- click here for Bread Bowl recipe. I approached the seafood counter at Whole Foods without a plan. Which is often how it goes. I’m looking for the fish to speak to me. Someone to stand out in the crowd. On this day, the cod did more than speak….they sang to me.

Here are Step by Step Instructions for making a Spiral Cut Hot Dog or you can watch our VIDEO of how to make a “Delaney Dog.”

Beignets & Charbroiled Oysters {and a Pimm’s Cup Cocktail Recipe}
Oysters. Fifty cent oysters on the half shell. That’s how it began one week ago today. Wait, you could say it actually began with Pimm’s Cup Cocktails at one of New Orleans most famous watering holes, the Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone. That’s where our bartender recommended Lüke, a Chef John Besh restaurant, located just a short walk away in the Central Business District. We wasted no time and headed that way. Lucky us…when we walked through the door we were informed that it was ‘Happy Hour.’ Fifty cent oysters on the half shell. Half-priced house brews and cocktails.

New England Clam Chowder
As kids growing up, when we went out to a restaurant, what we ordered was routine (thank goodness I outgrew that phase). Even though Mom had it memorized and could have easily ordered for us, from as early as I can remember she insisted we order our own meal (and take our elbows off the table). The server would take our drink order first, mine was always Ginger Ale. Then they’d come back and take our meal order, mine was always a Grilled Cheese Sandwich and a cup of Clam Chowder. Always. When you grow up in New England, it’s not a matter of whether Clam Chowder is the ‘soup of the day’….it will always be on the menu.

Chinese New Year Exploration {Sundays with Shelby}
For the past twenty years, in a round-about way, I’ve celebrated Chinese New Year. By day (and sometimes night) I manage an import company, who’s core factories are located in Taiwan, mainland China, and the Philippines. I’ve developed close relationships with my business partners in Asia and love hearing about their family traditions. I really do. However, being completely honest here, I most relate Chinese New Year to factory shut-downs which result in inventory shortages. There I said it. It’s my job to manage it I know, no fault of the factories. Whew…there I said that too. This year I’ve decided as a company we will {embrace} Chinese New Year. We won’t curse it. We won’t dread it. We will…

Sausage, Peppers & Caramelized Onion Stromboli {a Groundhog Day Treat}
Earlier in the week, we began discussing what we would cook on Super Bowl Sunday. All the foodie websites and fb pages were alive with recipe ideas and exchanges. The possibilities ranged from good old favorites like wings and nachos to the more exotic Salmon Wraps and Filipino Spring Rolls. I had every intention of hosting a virtual Super Bowl Party on my fb page, even planned a week of recipes and posts centered around that theme. But when it came time to make the announcement….we took it in a totally different direction. Here is the Party Announcement I shared on our fb page.

Welcome Winter Thyme {A Spice Exploration}
Lemony Thyme was born out of my new found love of cooking (and eating) when I discovered how fresh herbs could bring a dish to life. We bought three whiskey barrels for the back porch and filled them full of young herb plants. Spring Thyme looked something like this when we first began. Then as the summer sun showered our young plants with love, they began to flourish. Every recipe was an opportunity to harvest these glorious herbs. Just as fresh as the produce of the season, our dishes were bright with fresh herb flavors. Summer Thyme was a happy thyme for certain.

Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies {Topped with Sea Salt}
I may be a touch giddy today. It’s 10:55 am on a Thursday and I’m writing this post in my pj’s, gazing into my living room where the tree is a twinkling, the fire is a blazing, the dog is a napping, the coffee is a brewing, and the rain is a pouring down. And I’m about to make Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies Topped with Sea Salt. Can you see me smiling out loud?
