I’ve been making this regularly since I found it here three years ago. My partner lived on Crete for several years and he loves it. The several steps are basically simple, so it goes fairly quickly after you make it once. Authentic and delicious. Thank you!
P. S. I cheated last time and just browned cubed eggplant in good olive oil instead of breading and frying it. It was just as good, but less like a Greek eggplant lasagne.

This moussaka is in my “speed dial” file of all-time favorites. Huge hit with my partner who lived 3 years on Crete. I’ve made it a dozen times now- it’s so bomb-proof I’m even experimenting with a red pepper/eggplant vege version tonight. This recipe works beautifully, every time. Thanks so much!

You’ll love it Kat. Every layer has it’s own personality. It does take some time to come together. If you can make any of the layers ahead of time, like the eggplant slices or sauces that will help. Let me know how you like it.

The recipe I use has utmeg in it too, just some food for thought!
