Every so often I’m slapped with a dose of reality in the kitchen. For as much cooking as I/we do there remains an incredible gap in my culinary knowledge. I’m drawn to classic recipes and the history that surrounds them. Bucatini all’Amatriciana is one of those recipes.

Months and months ago when I was doing a little research on tomatillos for my Salsa Verde recipe, I ‘bookmarked’ a recipe for Fire Roasted Tomatillo Guacamole. Which translated means I wrote it on a piece of scrap paper and shoved it in my folder of recipes that I plan to make some day. Today’s the day for this crazy good recipe I found on Gilt Taste.

We ran out of our favorite bottled BBQ sauce about the time I developed an insatiable craving for BBQ Chicken Pizza. Sadly it’s not available locally so this time I turned the tables and challenged myself to come up with a Homemade BBQ Sauce that was equally as good as our favorite.

I am thankful for Farmers’ Markets (where I scored these beautiful Georgia peaches) and friends with gardens (where I scored these picture perfect jalapenos). When peaches and jalapeños meet there is bound to be some sweet spicy love created aka Peach Jalapeño Skillet Jam.

inPub Fries. They are single handedly responsible for my decision to make Fry Sauce. That bucket of perfectly Crispy Baked Potato Wedges deserved an equally perfect dunking sauce. But which one should I make?

Why have I waited so long to discover how easy AND inexpensive it is to make Restaurant-Style Salsa at home, by simply using your blender?!
We love Fresh Tomato Salsa in the summer when the tomatoes are abundant and delicious. But frankly, I’m not willing to pay for over-priced, not all that tasty, supermarket tomatoes during the winter months. Instead we turn to our freezer where we’ve got Homemade Tomato Sauce and to our pantry where we always have canned tomatoes on hand.

In preparation for Christmas morning breakfast I took a pack of our homemade English Muffins out of the freezer. That would open the door to perhaps Bacon, Egg & Cheese Breakfast Sandwiches, Eggs Benedict or if I was lucky Eggs Florentine.

inWeeks before Thanksgiving my sister and I were already making plans for the leftovers. Turkey Noodle Soup, Turkey Divan, Turkey Tetrazzini, Potato Pancakes, Roasted Veggie Soup, and let us not forget Thanksgiving Dinner Sandwiches.
Oh yeah, we’ve got stuffing, turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce all piled into a sandwich of comfort. Then without notice she blurts out Cranberry Horseradish Mayo. What?! There was silence for about a nano-second before I shouted out. Brilliant!
